The Nobel Peace Prize, 2020 was awarded to the United Nations (UN) World Food Program (WFP)

 

It was provided for the WFP

 

  • Its efforts to combat hunger.

 

  • Contribute to improving peace conditions in conflict-affected area.

 

  • Prevent hunger from being used in war and conflict.

 

UN About WFP

 
 
  • Founded in 1961 at the Food and Agriculture Organization in 1960, it is the largest humanitarian organization promoting hunger and food security.
 
  • Headquarters: Rome, Italy.
 
  • It aims to provide food assistance in emergencies and to create a backlog for food security, either by providing food or by providing cash-based transfers.
 
  • It operates entirely on public donations from governments, organizations and individuals and is a member of the UNDG (United Nations Development Program). 
 
  • The WFP is the UN's primary tool in achieving the SDG to eradicate global hunger.

WFP has been operating in India since 1963 and has recently come up with the country’s strategic plan for India (2019-23).


  • Recently, the Center approved WFP as a pilot of its 'Annapoorthi Project', an automated grain distributor - ATMs for rice - with a view to checking for irregularities in the distribution system.

Benefic The beneficiaries are from villages in six states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.

 

V SVIMTVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Advanced Technology in Rural Areas) Project is a Central Department Project of the Ministry of Panchayat Raj.

 

The purpose is to provide 'registration of rights' to rural homeowners who own homes in rural areas and to issue property cards to property owners.

 

    • In addition, other Gram Panchayat and community properties will be surveyed and GIS maps will be created.

    • Boundaries will be determined using drone surveying technology.
     
    • Years The project is being implemented across India over a period of four years (2020-2024), eventually covering 6.62 lakh villages in the country.

     

    Intended benefits

     

    • Bringing financial stability to the citizens of rural India by using their assets as financial assets to avail loans and other financial benefits.
    • Creating accurate land records for rural planning
    • Property tax determination
    • Reduce property related conflicts and legal cases
